There has been a movement going around the blogosphere for sometime about the use of “No Follow” and “Do Follow” comment links.
WordPress by default is setup with a No Follow comment system. Meaning you don’t get Google link love for commenting on blogs and linking back to your site. I believe the reason for this was to cut back on comment spam. But by using anti-spam plugins and moderating comments, spam can pretty much be avoided.
Due to the default No Follow settings in WordPress; Do Follow Directories and Do Follow Blog Search sites are becoming more and more popular. These sites are focused on finding Do Follow blogs that make it worth taking the time to comment.
I know I rarely feel compelled to leave a comment on a blog that isn’t do follow. But I’m very willing to comment on a blog that promotes do follow.
My Thoughts (for what its worth):
Disclaimer: *I am no SEO expert by any means, so don’t take this as gospel.*
If your visitors are good enough to come to your blog and take the time to comment; my view is let them have a little link love for their time. Its not like my blog is a Page Rank 8 or anything anyway.
Every comment that a post gets is a good thing. Who knows; Maybe the good outwieghts the bad.
Maybe and I say maybe, Google thinks with all that commenting, your blog is the shiznit and will rank it higher than the stingy blog owner that doesn’t have any comments because he/she is scared of leaking a little link juice.
So to make a long story short: Make your Blog a “DO FOLLOW” by installing a plug-in like No Follow Free. You could even take it one step further and add a CommentLuv to really spread some love to your visitors.
Later,
Matthew J

As you might have guessed, I found this post by doing a Google image search for “U comment, I follow”.
Many people use nofollow with the idea of trying to “save” PR juice, but it is quite possible to have a high SERP with almost no PR. Page rank is quickly showing itself to be less relevent when it comes to search results.
Nice little blog. I quite agree, I would enable dofollow on my blog but it seems blogger.com doesn’t allow it.
What people don’t realise is that even dofollow comments are useless if the anchor text you use for the link is your name. This will improve your keyword authority in the search engines for your name, but not for the keywords you want. However it does help with pagerank.
Also the more links there are in a page the less “link juice” is passed on. So even a PR8 site with like 100 comments on it will be3 of little use. But any link es better than nothing.

Nice post. I hope more bloggers catch the UCIF wave.
Matthew, you’re right. Most of blogs powered by WordPress set to nofollow just to avoid spam. To find a do-follow blog or forum, people need to view the source of a page do decide if a blog is do-follow or not, that’s a time consuming job.Now people can easily find a do-follow blog or forum by search ‘u comment i follow’ in google.
I’m very happy to see more people joining the U comment I follow movement. Having your blog set to “nofollow” just hinders the internet’s growth.

I’m glad there are some taking an active approach to dofollow blogs. It makes sense to pass the link juice around.
In regards to business blogs, I guess it depends on what exactly you’re trying to achieve with the blog. A dofollow business blog is likely to bring in more traffic and comments from dofollow hunters. But a nofollow business blog is likely to fare better in local targeted search results. After all, the targeted client base for a lot of businesses isn\’t blog owners – it’s regular searchers.
I’ve put my link. Thanks
I agree with you that todays it is very difficult to find the dofollow blog so “U comment I follow” become very popular.
AN IMPORTANT point about using keyword luv which all of the above commenters may be missing is that apart from many already discussed benefits of its use it helps interection with people who really care have knowledge and do appreitiate human emotions and feeling and attract genune beings ..also indirectly our knowledge also increases when we read the whole post so that we can give a decent comment related with trhe post hence inturn we come across many new ideas, info and lot more ..hope iam right here iguess
it is very imp. issue to be discussed. ultimately Google will follow competition on results.
Nice one Matthew, i appreciate the fact changing link relation to Do follow. I am sure by doing this there will be some amount of traffic. Welcome to the Do follow community Singh.
Best Regards
Gemma
I agree with you that dofollow brings lot of traffic to your site. Today it is really difficult to search the dofollow blog can you anybody suggest me how can we search the dofollow blog.
actually it depends on competition. if google has enough competition then google will not give important to no follow. if it does not have enough results then it will give importance…
yes at any rate it will give importance to do follow.
Does anyone know if there is a plug-in or widget for Blogspot yet?
do follow is the wonderful options to add to your blog. It gives readers incentive to add relevant comments by being rewarded with a backlink.
Thank you, you answered the question I have been searching for which was whether or not to place keywords when blog commenting.

Do follow blogs make your blog much more active. Why would any blog owner not to make their blogs do follow? The results of no follow mean no traffic and no activity on a blog. Who the heck wants that?
This is a great tip Matthew
I never really thought about making my blogs do follow for this reason. Seems to have worked out really well for you, best of luck

do follow links are a must in the current scenario
this is really nice. i do join do follow campaign
Hi Matthew,
This is the remarkable article! I bookmarked it.
I think allowing do follow links in comments is good only as lnog as the visitor leaves a good analysis of the post with the comment. But it should be considered as total spam if it’s done only to get some link juice.
Great gesture Matthew! I believe turning do follow on has a positive effect on your website because it is the way the web should be. Google changed its view on PageRank sculpting anyway (also see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4IE4WLPLZQ)

Joining do follow movement is really a nice choice to increase the number of your visitors.
Having a dofollow comment system in blogs is a really bold move since you are aware that more people will tend to spam it with nonsense and just put a link without leaving such a significant comment. However, by doing this. You’re showing your readers and subscribers how huge is your faith in them (to not spam your blog that is).

Matthew J,
You mentioned „Google link love for commenting on blogs and linking back to your site“. This your statement IMHO means spreading google PR through backlink but also anchor text of backlink which helps at ranking placement at google SERP-s.
Moderating comments is the only way to cut spams. Introducing blog rules that only commentators who put 10 or 20 or 30 quality and useful comments can put link back to web site.
Thanks “Matthew J” i was searching for the same solution and finally i found you through Google search
mind blowing!
hi this is Diana the above Post is really nice.
keep it up.
Joining the do follow movement is a great choice. This is a big opportunity for you to gain exposure.
This is how the blogosphere goes around. Long live bloggers.
I love this movement. It not only encourages people to make comments on a blog but also to make good ones to ensure that the comment stays on there and their link remains. I don’t really see why people would consciously turn on no-follow links.
Its the way forward, I’ve made all my blogs dofollow and commenting has gone through the roof. Spread the link juice
Do follow blogs surely gets more traffic …no arguing on that…u have to leave some catch so that others are interested
Any blog that is setup as do follow is going to see more traffic than a no follow site. While that traffic is not always there for the content, many of them will still be looking at your site which could spark there interest non the less. It’s the 80 20 rule! 80% are there for their own gain, and about 20% of them will by chance find your content interesting.

As Google continues to refine their algorithm to discount spammy links and moves toward semantic search, and considering that most blogs have a low pagerank, I don’t foresee the benefit of do follow links continuing much longer. I also think this will contribute to Google losing relevance as eventually the only search results you will get are for mega conglomerate organizations that have been around forever.
Replacing your blog from no follow to do follow is really a great choice because it will help you to generate traffic and receive online user.
Your blog may not be a PR8, but it’s got potential. Thanks for some GREAT info. I love your site.

U comment I Follow
I don’t really see the downside of a no-follow comment system. Having a dofollow comment system encourages people to place comments on two fronts: for seo and to actually add something to the conversation. If people are worried about spam, they can still have dofollow comments and approve comments.
Well i am in favor of Do-Follow links. Why not spread sopme link luv to others as well. Yes you are rite there are sevrel tools available for spam control.
Allowing doFollow links will definitely gather more interest in your site.

I think that making comments dofollow will bring much more traffic to your site, and readers will be posting comments with juicy keywords, as long as they get a link.

That’s right. Do follow has more benefit than no follow. Many people are too scared to spread their link juice as it will decrease their PR.
My blogs are do follow but still, I have some blogs with comments off for some reason.
